Over the Counter Medicine Dosages

Acetaminophen (Tylenol, Feverall, Tempra, etc.)

2 tabs of Adult Extra-strength Acetaminophen (500mg tabs) for 140 lbs or greater

Acetaminophen may be given every 4 hours, as needed for pain or fever.

Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, etc.)

Ibuprofen may be given every 6 to 8 hours, as needed for pain or fever.

Ibuprofen should not be given to infants under 6 months of age.

 

Antihistamine/Allergy Relief

Children’s Benadryl 2.5 mL 5 mL 7.5 mL 10 mL 12.5 mL 15 mL 17.5 mL 20 mL

Maximum 50 mg (20 mL)/dose every 6-8 hours.

Do not exceed 300 mg/24 hours.

These dosages are likely to cause drowsiness.
